THE ROLE AND BASIS OF ROMANIAВ’S NATIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Abstract

The global need for specific actions intended at reducing the climatic changes, the regional disparities and increasing the quality of life have led to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a set of 17 main focal points acknowledged by all the United Nations Organization (UN) members as totally necessary for contributing to ensuring a global sustainable development. Even so, not all the countries have developed their own National Sustainable Development Strategy, due to different factors such as a very high poverty level or other pressing problems (such as wars) which are a priority to solve before considering the sustainability of the country. As part of the United Nations and the European Union, Romania understood its role as an active actor in turning to a sustainable development and applying the 17 goals to the national specificity. In this case, in late 2018 RomaniaВ’s National Strategy for Sustainable Development has been officially launched, following the evaluation and approval of the Commission on Sustainable Development. The main objective of the paper is to critically analyze the construction of the Strategy and to see if it follows the 17 Sustainable Goals as a strict rule or if there are correlations with the national needs and specificity.
