TURKEY`S ENERGY POLICY RELATIONS WITH CIS COUNTRIES: THE CASE OF TURKMENISTAN

Abstract

Since the birth of CIS countries in the early 1990s, Turkey has prioritizes a cordial relationship with these states to date. Questions on this type of foreign policy however are on the factors that influence these decisions. Apart from the fact that, Turkey shares some common values with these countries, the region is a home to colossal amount of energy concessions. This paper seeks to analyze Turkey`s foreign policy objectives on energy within the Eurasian region, using Turkmenistan as point of reference. Author`s outcomes highlights on how the energy sector in the CIS countries has influence Turkey`s foreign policy directions towards the region and conclude with some policy suggestions.
