ELDERLY PEOPLE – CHANGE OF THE RANGE OF CARE OPTIMISATION
Abstract
For several decades, aging of the population in many countries of the world has been visible. This is particularly evident in Western Europe where people aged 60 and 65+ account for about 1/5 of the population. A further increase in the number of people in this age group in the world is anticipated. According to forecasts, by 2050 the number of elderly people will still grow intensively. Forecasts of the Department of Economics and Social Affairs of the United Nations estimate an increase in the number of eldest people. And so the number of people aged 80+ will rise in the world from 14 million in 2013 to 268 million in 2050. Similarly, the number of people aged 100+ years will increase during this period from 311 thousand up to 4.3 million (World 2013: 312). Extending the period of life is not always connected with the subjective sense of old age as a lack of health, dependence on third-party help. This was indicated in interviews with respondents aged 62 to 84 years old who were asked if they feel old. Many people with at least secondary education, emphasized that they are active, so they are not old. For this category of fit elderly people a broad provision of services needs to be developed aimed at maintaining and developing their social and civic activism.
