THE SUSTAINABILITY ACQUIRED BY THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT THROUGH AGROTOURISM
Abstract
Through the fact that capitalize the resources and local products, and combines two activities, agriculture as main activity and the tourism as a complementary activity, the profitability of agrotourism activity is high, being a chance of alternative incomes for rural areas, especially for those from the mountain area. Practicing agrotourism ensures the sustainability of the rural area due to the fact that it follows the encouraging of the practice of traditional activities in rural communities, stopping land abandonment and the chaotic development of tourist activities, in deep disagreement with the peculiarities of the rural environment. Agrotourism promotes the idea of combining economic interests, community development, and nature conservation. Rural entrepreneurs can capitalize on the tourist potential of an area and supplement farm incomes by adding a modest income from tourism activities. The present scientific paper is an attempt to review the structure of the agrotourist activity and product and of the role and benefits of agrotourism in supporting the development of the rural environment.
