Abstract

Throughout the history of the development of different societies, political systems and phenomena dealing directly with states and societies, an important role in building their media was played. Media have an important impact on development of social processes and civic education. In democratic societies, media is the greatest state's corrector. Having always been a natural rivalry with the local media, they both have played an important role in identifying and combating negative phenomena, as well as the development and maintenance of important processes in society. Therefore, nowadays increasingly is being advanced the role and importance of media in civic education. The purpose of this study is to present the perception of students about the media and their role on civic education. To accomplish the research there are used quantitative and qualitative methods. Research instruments were questionnaires for teachers and for students as well as interviews with teachers. Focus groups were eighth grade students of 171 schools in Kosovo in both rural and urban areas. Students are selected at random. They were of both sexes, male and female. Duration of completing the questionnaires was 45 minutes. The data derived from the survey were processed with SPSS program. The results from the survey reveal the beliefs and attitudes of students associated with the media, functioning, and the importance of their role in society. These data will be used as supplementary material for students of the Faculty of Education on the subject of Civic Education.
