THE STEREOTYPES OF CROATIAN TEACHERS REGARDING PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL STATUS
Abstract
The stereotypes of teachers regarding their professional and personal status depend on the perception of the society and culture they are in, and they can affect the teachersВ’ professional competence. The teacherВ’s professional competences are reflected in the teacher's ability to apply the acquired knowledge, skills, abilities, and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for their job. The aim of the paper was to examine the stereotypes of teachers in Croatia and the acceptance of stereotypes of Croatian teachers on professional and personal status. Qualitative survey was conducted on the basis of a semi-structured group interview during 2017 on 290 class teachers in Osijek-Baranja, Virovitica-Podravina and PoВћeВљko-slavonska County of Croatia. Research results showed that teachers have stereotypes regarding their professional and personal status, especially visible were the negative attitudes towards independence in making expert decisions, professional and scientific advancement, support from school, and status in society and in the educational context.
