THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEALTHY LIFE YEARS AND ACCESSIBILITY TO MEDICAL SERVICES IN EUROPEAN UNION SIMONA-ANDREEA URSACHE (M. DUMITRIU)1
Abstract
In this era of globalization, the world has gradually reduced inequalities in life expectancy. Alongside this development, a key aspect of a sustainable society is the level of human health throughout life. In this study, we aim to look at the relationship between healthy life years, Eurostat's European structural indicator for expressing healthy life years or life expectancy without disabilities (these focus on the quality of life spent in a healthy state, rather than the quantity of life, as measured by life expectancy), and accessibility to health services, assessed by a number of indicators : share of people aged 50-69 having performed a mammography in the last year, share of the population over 65 years that has been vaccinated against influenza, degree of access to good medical infrastructure, number of doctors at 100.000 place, number of beds in hospitals 100.000 place, number of people who declared themselves dissatisfied with the accessibility to dental and medical services and others. From a methodological point of view, both the general trends analyzed at the level of the European Union countries and the specific trends observed at the national level are concerned. The geographical analysis (spatial distribution of health indicators) to be accompanied by statistical analysis (analysis in main components, Pearson coefficient, etc.) and the data analyzed will have as the main source the European Core factors database (2014). Following the documentation from the specialized literature and consultation of the statistical data we would like to carry out a qualitative analysis, confirming the initial hypotheses.
