THE MISSION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIVERSITIES IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The paper describes the mission of universities and colleges in general. Furthermore, their roles and relationships to the region and institutions in the region in which they operate, the importance of universities in the development of Europe and its European regions. Universities can have a great impact on regional development in terms of employment, expenditures and other economic factors, education, social and cultural function. The author point to the importance of relations between universities and business. Note that despite the financial and economic crisis is not reasonable to limit investment in education. Briefly define the importance of the cooperation between universities at the national and international level. In conclusion, outlined some of the tasks that must be filled to ensure the sustainable development of regions and improving the lives of their inhabitants.
