Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the effect of the COVID 19 pandemic on the relations of church state and international law. I am researching the state of religious freedom in the 21st Century in my overall research by studying international human rights law, state laws and religious laws. Through my general research I set up 5 state models to identify church and state relations, namely: pure, cold, coordinated, enemy, and unity depending on each state’s attitude towards religious observance and practice. In order to build these five models I used life dynamics such as the right to marriage, divorce, burial, religious diet, attire, prayer and public funding and practice of religion to analyze the degree of religious freedom available in different states, such as the United States, Israel, France/Belgium and Hungary. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged these traditional models and may have created a 6th model called the “extreme” which this work aims at analyzing and constructing.
