POLITICAL IMPACT OF BREXIT
Abstract
European integration is probably the most successful example of integration in the world. After World War II six of European countries – France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands decided to cooperate more closely - mainly in the field of the economic cooperation (only later in political one). And it worked. The process of integration deepened slowly but effectively and more countries decided to join, the United Kingdom as well. The United Kingdom became the member of the European Communities in 1973. But very early, in 1975, the first referendum dealing with leaving of the country was hold. And although the UK stayed in the European Communities, the ties between the United Kingdom and the European Union have been always complicated since then. About half of the British voters were always against membership in the European Union and it was proved in referendum in 2016. The consequences seem to be clear and the task for the United Kingdom and the European Union is difficult. It is necessary to discuss the model, the most convenient for both part in the atmosphere of political turbulences in Europe. Visible are also consequences on political life of the country.
