SUSTAINABLE RESIDENTIAL HOUSING FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF ITS USERS
Abstract
The concept of sustainable development is based on the development of appropriate relations between the economic growth and the care for the environment and human health. Implementation of a sustainable construction investment, a housing investment included, should principally provide its investors with benefits, but at the same time it should minimise the burden for the environment and the negative impact upon the society. In Poland already as early as in 1990 a document State Ecological Policy was drawn up. It came into force in 1991, that is one year before Agenda 21, which was an effect of the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro. What is the situation of sustainable residential housing today, over 20 years after the implementation of this document, and most of all how is it perceived by the addressees of the concept, that is the users themselves? Methods The article was written on the basis of the Author's research pertaining to the knowledge and opportunities of users of residential investments concerning the application of sustainable solutions. The research adopted the following criteria: the health aspect, the environmental protection, comprehensiveness of information and support. Surveys were conducted among users of residential investments in Poland. The current situation was analysed and evaluated. Results The results of the research indicate that there is a lack of easy access to comprehensive information and of a system of comprehensive support for investors and users who declare their willingness to shape residential investments according to the principles of sustainable development in Poland. In this domain one can observe information chaos and no cooperation at the contact point of individual lines of business which participate in the investment process Conclusion In Poland one can notice the willingness of private investors, as well as technical and financial possibilities, to adopt sustainable solutions in shaping residential housing investments. It is necessary to introduce integrated actions consisting in close cooperation of all participants in the investment process already at the stage of the concept of a building, through its design, execution and use, as well as to provide appropriate access to comprehensive information and to create a comprehensive support system for investors and users who declare their willingness to shape residential housing investments according the principles of sustainable development.
