CHANGES IN THE WAYS OF COPING WITH DEMANDING SITUATIONS AS A CHALLENGE FOR HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
Coping with demanding situations is a regular part of managerial work. In this context, demanding situations are perceived by managers as either unpleasant or as a starting ramp for their career growth. The paper presents the results of an experimental research project on human capital development on the basis of increasing the efficiency of resolving difficult situations. The experimental group underwent a specific preparation, whereas the control group did not. The experiment was conducted on a research sample of 293 Management students using the CISS methodology [1]. The experimental results confirmed statistically significant differences between the ante- and the post-measurement within the experimental group in terms of the coping factors: Emotion-oriented coping and Task-oriented coping. Within the control group, none of these differences were found. The results of the experimental research project support, from a theoretical and methodological point of view, the multidimensional understanding of the construct of coping and also point to the possibilities of a situational approach to exploring this issue.
