EMPLOYEES’ ENGAGEMENT RELATION TO WORK STRESS IN “ALFA” LTD
Abstract
Nowadays organizations have external requirements to change and adapt more than ever before, and the individuals must be able to continuously develop their skills, personal resources and expertise to meet the organizational changes. This requirement raises the pressure and increases the stress level, as well as the difficulties in ensuring the balance between work and private life. To be able to adapt to the requirements of the employer, be competitive, not to let the stress adversely affect the performance and at the same time still be involved, to work efficiently and effectively for a company, can be a challenge. Theoretical basis of the study includes several significant work stress and engagement researchers as Hans Selye, Peter Warr, Robert Kasarek, Richard Lazarus, Wilmar Schaufeli, Arie Shirom and William A. Kahn. The study was conducted for an IT solution company “Alfa” Ltd. The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between work stress and engagement of employees to reduce work stress and promote their engagement. The following theoretical, empirical and statistical methods are used: the scientific literature, studies, an analysis of work stress and engagement, modified “American Institute of Stress: Workplace Stress” survey, Gallup’s Q12 - employee engagement 12 factors, Cronbach's Alpha, Kolmogorov–Smirnov Z test, descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The results of the study show that there are statistically significant, negative correlation between stress and employees’ engagement in organization “Alfa” Ltd: 71% of survey respondents show low stress level, 86% of respondents represent high engagement level and the answers to the questions are above the level 66%.
