Abstract

This study aims to explore the profile of female entrepreneurs and to examine their entrepreneurial behaviour. A sample of 40 female entrepreneurs from the North-East Region of Romania was surveyed in order to identify their socio-demographic characteristics, main features of their businesses, as well as their ways of approaching business. The outcomes of the study found that female entrepreneurs in the North-East Region of Romania show many similarities with their counterparts in other countries in terms of marital status and average age for starting the business, the source of business financing, the chosen field of activity, the size of business and the main support groups female entrepreneurs rely on. The paper also discusses the findings related to the educational background of female entrepreneurs and how they developed their entrepreneurial skills. The paper contributes to the literature on female entrepreneurship due to the scarcity of publications about business activities of women in Romania, specifically in the North-East region of the country. The research is also relevant for policy makers in this region and researchers wishing to conduct indigenous entrepreneurship and gender studies.
