TELEWORKING AND ITS BENEFITS ON WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Abstract
Achieving an optimal balance between work, personal life and family responsibilities is a key contributing factor to the employee's overall well-being, reflected in 3 areas: health care, employee productivity and retention. There are many ways to enhance work life balance and creating a flexible organizational culture is one of the most effective option. In this paper, we reveal the importance of telework in enabling a supportive and healthy work environment, which will help employees to achieve a better work life balance, without sacrificing productivity and without unnecessary expenses. The review focuses on the concept of telework, the specifics of teleworking, characteristics of the telework agreement, the advantages and disadvantages of teleworking, employment and working conditions of teleworkers (health and safety, data protection, access to training, equipment, organization of work, collective rights etc.). In this article, we also aim to analyse the legal and policy framework on telework, adopted at international, European and national level, with a special emphasis on the European Framework Agreement on Telework S/2002/206.01.02. The final section of this paper contains conclusions and recommendations for the implementation of telework arrangements.
