CIVILIZATIONAL AND CULTURAL SELF-IDENTITY AS A NEW KIND OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE XXI CENTURY
Abstract
The article represents a concept of the new civilizational and cultural paradigm in the process of formation. Determined by the coexistence of two strong types of cultures with the opposite focuses, this new paradigm designates the two cultural types by the indicators "Retro" and "Future" accordingly. Here we describe the specifics of each civilizational and cultural type. In particular, this work proves the necessity of preserving the fundamental "status quo" of these civilizational and cultural types. This necessity is a guarantee of reproduction and advance of the humanity as biological species. We pay special attention to the justified and responsible self-determination of the individual regarding to "Retro" or "Future" cultures. This self-determination takes place after the period of primary socialization. The article emphasizes an inevitable character of such identity formation for an arbitrary critical mass of the population in the era of scientific and technical revolution, with the unlimited access to information, infinite communication opportunities and the development of education systems. In the conclusion, we validate the possibility and the necessity of the personal rational choice of his or her own civilizational and cultural future. Responsible cultural self-determination entails personal awareness of the limitations imposed by the system of law and the traditions of these cultures. Moreover, we formulate the condition, which guarantees a peaceful coexistence of societies with different civilizational and cultural backgrounds. That is the interaction of the intellectual agents of the above-mentioned societies aiming at the implementation of transnational cultural policy.
