THE SOVIET UNION AND ALLIES IN WORLD WAR II: EXPERIENCE OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION

Abstract

The article dwells upon the peculiarities of economic cooperation of the USSR and the allies during the World War II. After the war had begun, the main task of the Soviet diplomacy was the fastest consolidation of all countries fighting against fascism. One of the priority directions of cooperation was the fastest receiving from the allies of military and economic aid that was supposed to be a significant contribution to the future Victory. The basis of the cooperation between the USSR, Great Britain and the United States was theLend-Lease Program. A significant importance was given to the specific methods and ways of providing the economic assistance to the Soviet Union. The deliveries were made according to the Moscow, Washington, London and Ottawa Protocols. The most important routes were the Pacific, Arctic, Trans-Iran cargo delivery routes. The military items were only part of the total tonnage of supplies. The rest of the goods were non-military goods, primarily food. In the first months of the war supplies to the USSR were small. Most of them were made in 1943-1945, after the occurrence of the fundamental turning point in the war. At the same time, the economic aid of the allies that was received in the Soviet Union played an important role in equipping the red Army with weapons and military equipment. The economic cooperation of the USSR, the UK and the USA became one of the factors contributing to the Victory over fascism in the World War II. The decisions taken by the allies showed wide opportunities of the diplomatic cooperation.
