THE ARTISTIC EXPERIMENT: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL RESEARCH TOWARDS A PEDAGOGY OF ART
Abstract
The avant-garde movements of the 20th century have emphasized the experiments in artistic creation, building on the experience of abstract movements in visual arts. They introduced new elements such as body movement, materials and unconventional sceneries. All of these have led, later on, to performance art and new media. The artistic experiments of the last century focus more and more on the subjective experience of the artist during the artistic process. Using the new technologies and visual media, the artist is able to express his experiences within experimental projects, overcoming the boundaries of conventional visual arts towards new cultural domains, such as sociological research, various types of archaeologies or pedagogy. During projects such as Caloianul, The archeology of perception and Technological gesture, I have combined visual arts with performative ones, re-creating rituals and forgotten techniques through performances. These projects have been thought of as a phenomenological inquiry through visual arts, which takes an interdisciplinary turn towards pedagogy, archeology and sociology.
