MIDWIVE´S CARE ABOUT WOMEN WITH PERINEAL TRAUMA AFTER CHILDBIRTH
Abstract
Many women who give birth vaginally experience some degree of perineal trauma either because of spontaneous tearing or episiotomy. The routine midwives care for women with perineal trauma after childbirth is very important. Interventions of midwifery are oriented to promote healing and restore tissue. The aim of this paper was to identify, analyse and evaluate the midwives care for women with perineal trauma after childbirth at postpartum ward in the first days of puerperium. Research sample was consisted of 50 respondents based on the following inclusion criteria: 1 year practise at postpartum ward, a signed informed consent, willingness to complete a questionnaire. Mean age of the respondents was 33.48 ± 9.64. For data collection, we used a questionnaire of our own design, focused on the midwives care of women about perineal trauma after childbirth. The our questionnaire was distributed to midwives that are working at postpartum wards of hospitals in the Slovak and Czech Republic. In our study we can confirm that 72.0% of midwives daily check the condition of perineal trauma after birth. All respondents inform women about perineal care after birth especially about the importance of perineal hygiene. 60.0% of respondents did not make rinsing the perineal wound with Betadine solution. The most common women´s problems reported to midwives in relation to perineal trauma after childbirth are pain in the site of perineal trauma and problems with sitting position. Frequent being treated perineal trauma after childbirth are an episiotomy and 1st perineal rupture. Midwives care for perineal trauma after birth is very important. When comparing the results of our research and research studies dealing with the care of perineal trauma, we found that midwives provide care for perineal trauma after birth largely by existing framework standards in midwifery and literature for midwifery.
