SPATIAL CHANGES IN THE HEALTH RESORTS OF SOUTHERN POLAND. KRYNICA- ZDROJ EXAMPLE
Abstract
The aim of the article is to present latest activities in the southern Poland spa resorts. Health resorts located in the piedmont and mountain regions of southern Poland are centers of outstanding natural value, including: landscape, climate and, above all, waters that are used in medicine. Also having confirmed by numerous studies and a long-standing tradition of curing many diseases. [1] Krynica-Zdroj is number one the example of polish spa town, is the most famous spa town in Poland, called the pearl of В‘Polish spasВ’. The town is known because of its beautiful location, the richness of the natural environment, manifesting in more than 20, exploited in this spa, healing mineral waters, but also of the forms of resort architecture, accumulated during almost two hundred years of Krynica ZdrojВ’s activity as a health resort. Although the location of the place where the healing activity is carried out in the space with high landscape values, it has a very positive effect on the treatments conducted in the town. A public space plays an important role in the spa, a space in which patients live directly, move between treatments or during their free time. [2] The revitalization works, which were carried out in Krynica Zdroj, where many historic medical and sanatorium facilities were modernized. The exchange of pavement, planting and elements of small architecture in the main public spas was made. Revitalization activities undertaken in Krynica Zdroj change the city and the spa into a modern and functional town subordinate to the curative function. The cultural role of Krynica-Zdroj as a place of many events and festivals and the economy it plays as the host of the annual Economic Forum is also significant. Although most of the activities are financed to a large extent from EU funds, a very large share is always required. In the case of Krynica Zdroj, the pearls of Polish health resorts, it is possible to obtain additional funds for investments from the Polish state budget.
