SAMPLE MODEL FOR GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION FUNCTIONING AND MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Geography education in Bulgaria is conducted in conditions of centralized planning. It is organized in a system which obtains certain parameters – content, struc-ture, organization and environment. The most important factor defining the geography education statute is state educational policy which is a result of social, economic and political conditions. Public needs, nature of geography science and the essence of geog-raphy knowledge and cognition find their particular reflection in the mission of geogra-phy education – to accomplish the build-up of geography literacy in young people as part of their general literacy. All these facts demand to study the proper ways for effec-tive management of geography education and its improvement. One of the possible so-lutions is to foster innovative models for management, functioning and development of geography educational system. In current paper is presented a sample model for geogra-phy education functioning and management using the metaphor as an instrument for its reflection. “House of geography education” is presented as a complex system working in a specific environment. The elements of the system as well as the interrelations and interactions are shown. The model functioning is organized in a certain logical coher-ence of goals which are more or less standardized. The whole “working process” is im-plemented in a “framework” delineated from the interaction between strategy, structure and organizational culture. There are different “modes” of development and we are searching the “ideal organizational environment”.
