INVENTORY FOR TEACHERS’ SELF-ASSESSMENT IN CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT STYLES - DEVELOPMENT AND ITS PSYCHOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract

The paper deals with development of the Inventory for teachers’ self-assessment in classroom management styles (ITSCMS). The starting standpoint was model which distinguishes three classroom management styles: interventionist, interactionist and non-interventionist. The initial content of Inventory consisted of 36 items in the form of Likert scales (ranged from 1 to 5), describing each style by 12 items. Inventory was given to the sample of 169 teachers from Serbia. Results showed that the instrument has good reliability (Alpha Cronbach = .838). Validity test by factor analysis method suggested retaining of three factors which could be explained as three different classroom management styles. On the basis of item discrimination analysis, six items were removed. Finally, the authors concluded to offer a little bit changed version of the Inventory consisting 30 items (10 items for each of three styles) whose reliability is still satisfactory (Alpha Cronbach = .826).
