PARKING PROBLEMS IN SHAPING A HOUSING
Abstract
A huge increase in the importance of individual transport in the 20th the century concerned practically all Western European countries and the USA. This was favored by changes in urban planning and society, such as the sprawl of cities and the development of the automotive sector. The prices of passenger cars dropped significantly, which in turn meant that the car ceased to be a luxury commodity and became the everyday means of human communication. Most European citizens can afford to buy a used car. The city authorities had to set standards for the parking system, predict the number of cars in the following years, and set up field reserves for the parking service. The whole of the actions taken by the city authorities could be reduced to one question: how to put hundreds of cars into the transport system? This article deals with problems related to the parking service of housing estates. The aim of the work is to analyze the experiences of various countries regarding the creation of a parking strategy. The work focuses on regulations, coefficients and strategies related to housing development. These experiences are particularly important for Poland - a country where the concept of "parking policy" is just shaping.
