Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the preferable qualifications according to the needs of entrepreneur in various careers and Thai Qualifications Framework of Higher Education (TQF). This framework focuses on 5 aspects of learning which are ethical and moral development, acquisition of knowledge, development of cognitive skills, development of interpersonal skills and personal responsibility and development of analytical and communication skills. This exploratory research investigates 55 workplaces where employ our apprentices. Data was collected by the mean of open-ended questionnaires. The findings were grouped into seven types of work: government agencies, state enterprise, private companies, hotels, airline business, travel business and logistics. We found that different types of work that Business English students attended for job training prefer both different characteristics and qualifications of their prospective employees. Also, apart from the qualification framework of higher education, there are some additional qualifications required in some types of work, especially in state enterprise, private companies, hotels, and airline business. This suggests that Business English Program should provide the curriculum to match the preferable qualifications: the studentsВ’ learning and studying should be managed to ensure the preferable qualifications, not only in terms of morals, knowledge, intellectual, interpersonal relation, and communication skills and technology, but also the qualified behaviors and attitudes.
