SOMATIC AND MOTOR PARAMETERS OF 9-10 YEARS OLD CHILDREN
Abstract
The study, which was supported by the grant project VEGA 1/0625/16 “The effect of physical activities on the development of motor abilities in integrated children with behavior disorders”, deals with the effects of exercise programs on the development of children’s motor abilities. The purpose of the study was to assess the levels of coordination abilities among nine and ten years old children by administering the KTK standardized test battery and to determine the relationship between their somatic parameters and motor coordination. To process data about somatic and motor parameters, we used the arithmetic means as the measure of central tendency and standard deviation as the measure of variation. To assess the normality of data distribution and differences between pretest and posttest, we used the Shapiro-Wilk test and t test for independent samples, respectively. To determine relationships between variables, we used the Pearson’s correlation coefficient. We found that targeted physical activities had positive effect on the development of children’s coordination abilities. The participation in physical activities produced equivocal results, not showing significant differences between genders. High degree of relative coefficient shows that children with higher BMI values achieved lower scores in all tests.
