THE USE OF ADAPTIVE COMPUTER-BASED TESTS IN LINGUISTIC DIAGNOSTIC TESTING
Abstract
Adaptive education model as a modern implementation of the well-known pedagogical principle of instruction individualization is becoming increasingly popular. However, effective adaptive learning cannot be effective and functional without adaptive testing. The paper examines the prerequisites for using models of adaptive instruction in general and adaptive testing in particular. The experience of using computer-based adaptive tests, in the context of a group of about fifteen students with different levels of training, different cognitive and linguistic abilities, with different levels of motivation is described, computer-based and paper-based tests are compared, features of adaptive tests are determined. The area of application of adaptive tests in linguo-didactic testing is considered. Among the shortcomings of computer adaptive testing are the discrepancy between the planned complexity of a real issue and the fact that computer testing is not always creative; the authors conclude that tests do not replace or abolish other control methods, but they supplement them. Only effective combination of different types of control can help the teacher to get a complete and objective picture of the student's achievements.
