Abstract

The report topic submitted for the conference is connected with the study of the phenomenon of persistence of ethnic identity, language and culture in the Essey Yakuts historically formed under special life conditions. The main objectives of the work are to analyze and identify the features of the current state of economic activity and make analysis of the current state of culture of the Essey Yakuts. The article content is partially based on the field-work material collected by university research expedition to the Essey village in March-April 2014. The expedition was aimed at studying of the modern development of traditional lifestyle of the Essey Yakuts. The research methods used were inclusive observations, unstructured interviews of the native Essey people. The main aim of the paper is to analyze main directions of modern changes and determine nature of these changes in the life of the Essay Yakuts in early XXI century, as well as evaluation of preserved elements of traditional life in relation to preservation and development of ethnic identity.
