PECULIARITIES OF THE CHRONO-SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE ANTHROPONYMS IN THE CARPATHIAN-BALKAN SPACE

Abstract

In this paper we try to highlight some features of the anthroponymy in the Carpathian-Balkan space, from the first centuries of the Christian era to the present day. To accomplish this, we will use a series of methods, grouped together in the methods of collecting of name information and the methods of analysis and interpretation of anthroponyms. Among the collection methods (sources), we highlight the collections of inscriptions, documents, various statistical records, yearbooks, websites, etc. In the analysis and interpretation methods, the linguistic analysis, the geographic method and the cartographic method are used. For the mapping of anthroponyms, although over time, the studied area has experienced a great variation of administrative decoupling, for the comparability of data from different periods, we used, strictly conventional, a NUTS 2 (or equivalent) map fund for the countries totally or partially superposed across the Carpathian-Balkan space. Among the peculiarities that are highlighted are the disappearance of the majority of ante-Christian anthroponyms (Greek, Roman, Tracian-Dacian, Illirian) at the end of antiquity, the spread of the anthroponymy promoted by Christianity, the diversification of anthroponyms, both in time and space, the relations between the different anthroponymic systems (Greek, Romanian, Albanian, Slavic, German, Hungarian, Turkish), etc.
