ONLINE DIGITAL TESTS IN FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT: EXPLORING BENEFITS AND PITFALLS THROUGH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
Formative assessment is essential in teaching and learning process. Tests play an important role as a tool for formative assessment, especially in the process of information retention in long-term memory. However, pen and paper format exhibits many constraints, such as time consumption in the correction and feedback, which difficults a systematic use. In this way, the online digital tests are presented as a viable alternative with clear benefits compared to pen and paper format. This study assumes a sequential explanatory mixed methods design, consisting in two distinct phases for data collection and analysis. The participants are 2 middle school classes and their science teacher. The study aims to identify the benefits and pitfalls of using online digital tests compared with pen and paper format, through the perspective of students and teachers. It also pretends to understand how the use of online digital tests provide improvement in students academic outcomes.
