PERSONNEL TRAINING: A VARIETY OF METHODS FOR RETAINING ORGANIZATIONВ’S COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Abstract
Personnel training and development is one of the key activities an organization should be concerned about. Providing better quality goods and services to the market, increasing productivity and, eventually, economic success of an organization – all these are only possible due to attracting and retaining the most qualified and efficient employees. Investments in human capital, in the form of personnel training and development, are essential for ensuring implementation of corporate strategic goals. The aim of this paper is to consider the most effective methods and approaches to personnel training that enable organizations to maintain their competitive advantage in the long term. Training methods include on-the-job training, such as job rotation, enlarged job responsibilities, job instruction training, learner-controlled instruction, apprentice training; and off-the-job training, including lecture, conference/discussion, audiovisual, vestibule, programmed instruction. Selection of a particular training technique should be made after closely examining the organization’s goals and objectives, specific training environment, financial resources, among others. The role of managerial staff is of high value in organizing training, as they should teach employees to manage their own careers, providing favorable conditions and support, setting personal examples, instilling trust, and promoting the idea of continuous professional development.
