PERSPECTIVES OF SOCIAL INTERVENTION IN ADDRESSING THE INSTABILITY OF FAMILIES IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY.

Abstract

The study focuses on the social construction of relationships between social workers and clients in solving family problems. The concept of social construction is used to examine the categories of categorization, stereotyping. The goal is to find out how social workers are constructing relationships and bringing them closer to family intervention. We are focused on workers of social protection and social care in the Slovak Republic. The theoretical part looks at the problem of instability, threats, family crises in terms of causes and consequences, but also from the perspective of the subsequent intervention of social workers in relation to families with children as a whole. The theoretical background points to the arguments that declare the gradual instability of families, provoking the necessity of intervention by social workers. Research is geared to answering the basic research question and methods of quantitative extensive research have been used. Secondary statistical data were obtained from two basic sources: the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family and the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, while the data collection followed the stated goal. Descriptive statistics were used to process selected data. We found that there was a decrease in the number of divorces in the monitored period 2010-2016, the causes of which stem from a number of pathological manifestations in the family. On the other hand, the number of families and children registered in the register of children's social protection and social welfare bodies is increasing, which requires adequate intervention by social workers to improve the functioning and stability of the family system. Empirical findings can be used primarily to declare the root causes of the instability of the families of contemporary society, pointing to the complexity and diversity of the work of social workers in the social protection of children and social careers in relation to families displaying various pathological manifestations.
