THE WORLD OF THE ROMANIAN CAROL MIRRORED IN THREE PARTS FOR PIANO Op. 18 BY MIHAIL ANDRICU
Abstract
The synthesis between the national folk tradition and the European musical tradition was performed in the Romanian culture with the contribution of great creative personalities. This synthesis is carried out differently from one culture to another, from one composer to another, either by following traditions or by consolidating the original and relevant language, which resulted in the shaping up of the national musical folklore cultures of the XXth century. Three piano parts op. 18 composed in 1933 by composer Mihail Andricu are three miniatures that are distinguished by a theme that is present in the Romanian traditional music. This appears as specific melodies and rhythms, presented in the refined language of the composer. We shall identify cells and motifs, harmonies that spring from different melodic structures. The Romanian carol world, a kind of Romanian traditional music which is reflected in the work of Mihail Andricu, is a return to origins. All these are the attributes of valuable work and give expression and originality to the creation of Mihail Andricu.
