MIGRATIONS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE ETHNIC COMPOSITION OF THE NORTHERN ASIAN POPULATION IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
Abstract
The 19-20th century period witnessed active migrations between populations in many countries. Internal migrations were determined by specific political, economic, social and cultural development of the states. Those were particularly active in multinational empires. Migration specificity in the Russian Empire was that they had both compulsory and voluntary nature. They directly affected the ethnic composition of regions. This article will focus on the correlation between voluntary and compulsory migrations in the formation process of specific ethnic groups, and analyze their influence on changes in the national composition of people living in a certain region.
