WAYS OF IMPLEMENTING THE MANAGEMENT MEASURES USED IN THE PROTECTED AREAS OF ROMANIA IN THE CURRENT EUROPEAN GEOPOLITICAL CONTEXT

Abstract

The paper presents main aspects related to the evaluation of management efficiency, implemented within protected areas, especially those belonging to the ecological network Natura 2000. It aims to monitor progress in the management of protected areas, as they have experienced exponential growth in the last decade due to the rate of extinction of species and the destruction of ecosystems. In order to maximize the potential of protected areas, biodiversity conservation is considered to improve the management plan by knowing the content of existing values and threats, continuing with planning, allocating resources in the management process, which will materialize in products and services, obtaining thus favorable results. In this way, protected area managers will detect the weaknesses of each element and will identify management issues that need to be addressed. Attention is paid to the involvement of protected areas in sustainable development and their correlation with land use planning. Emphasis is placed on the concept of participatory-integrative conservation of local communities in the management of protected areas and through ecotourism, in order to support managers and other stakeholders, to contribute to the harmonization of efficient evaluation. It is recommended that managers, custodians of protected areas discuss and analyze all questions within the management team in a participatory manner, in order to agree on answers and solutions to problems and the next steps to improve management efficiency. External experts, leaders of local communities, representatives of non-governmental organizations or other people who have knowledge and interest in the area of the protected area and in the management of its values will be involved.
