EVOLUTION OF THE PHENOMENON OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AFTER ROMANIA'S ACCESSION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of human trafficking for sexual exploitation by capturing the evolution of the phenomenon in a changed political-economic context after Romania joined the European Union. The data analyzed were obtained in a qualitative research ANIMANOVA (2009-2012) coordinated by The Partnership for The Equality Center Bucharest. Based on the interviews with professionals and victims from Romania we will present the changes in the magnitude or the phenomenon, in the traffickers' recruiting strategies, methods of exploitation, in the profile of the victims, problems in identification of the victims. Our results shows changeless data's in magnitude, decreasing level of physical violence a high level of manipulation used in the phase of the recruitment, similarities with domestic violence dynamic in exploitation phase and in problems of victims help seeking and their identification by authorities.
