RELIGIOSITY AS A FACTOR AFFECTING THE FORMATION OF THE STUDENTSВ’ MORAL CONSCIOUSNESS

Abstract

The major research objective was to study the influence of the studentsВ’ religiosity on their moral consciousness. Religion has always been the most effective and widespread means of maintaining social order. It has played a variety of roles in different social contexts and, as a subsystem of society, changed along with it depending on the specific historical circumstances. In the socialist countries, positioning itself as atheistic, the level of religiosity of the population was extremely low. Currently, there is a revival of the role of religion in Russian society and an increase in the interest of young people in it. But at the same time contemporary Russian society is characterized by a general decline in morals. Therefore, it is important to understand whether religion has once again become an element of the value consciousness of individuals and if so, whether it is a mechanism of the formation the younger generationВ’s moral principles. Methodology. The theoretical basis of the research was the absolutist, naturalistic and socio-historical theories of morality, as well as the positivist and structural-functional sociological theories. The primary data was collected using questionnaires. The survey was conducted in four major universities in the city of Chelyabinsk. The respondents were students of different fields of training. Findings and results. The study has shown that the student's religiosity affects their moral consciousness. A high degree of religiosity of a person forms high moral qualities, such as: justice, sensitivity, humanity, honesty, tact. It can be explained by the fact that the religion as well as the moral makes certain demands on human behavior, and they are very similar. Religious precepts are largely unspoken voice to those moral rules that exist in the civilized world. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that the students within the Orthodox reality to a greater extent have high moral qualities. The study has revealed that despite the high degree of faith in God's students, among them there are few people with a high degree of religiosity. The majority of students are nominally believers, as a rule, they do not back their faith with the fulfillment of religious orders, they just ignore them. The research has shown that believers with a low degree of religiosity are conformists, both in the case of religion and in terms of moral consciousness. The study has elucidated that there are a lot of Believers among the students. This is due to the high degree of religiosity of their parents, who seek to form religious principles among their children. There are few students within the Orthodox reality, which in turn is explained by the lack of students' interest in religion as a whole, as well as by the superficial knowledge of the foundations of their religion.
