Abstract

The eagerness for knowledge, adventure, relaxation, escape the mundane and restoration of health has led to the continuous development of tourism worldwide, but also to the uncontrolled exploitation of tourist resources. This has led to the appearance and implementation of the concept of sustainable development in tourism. Salt mines are considered to be special tourist attractions that offer multiple valorisation possibilities. In Romania there are, in Transylvania and the sub-Carpathian area, important deposits of rock salt and exploitations, some of which are included in the tourist circuit. One of these salt mines is Turda, located in the DurgДѓu-ValeaSДѓratДѓ area, Cluj County, which is modern and visited by more and more tourists. The development of sustainable tourism in this salt mine has as result the preservation of resources and its presence on the map of tourist destinations in Romania.
