Abstract

The work examines the troubled story of the Lanerossi spinning mill plant, a case of a company that experienced firsthand the negative effects of the economic policy of “extraordinary intervention of the State” for Southern Italy. Lanerossi's affair represents an interesting visual angle both for the analysis, at a macroeconomic level, of the policy of public intervention in the 1960s and, more generally, for reading, at the microeconomic level, an important and suffered chapter in the economic history of the province of Foggia, in Puglia, and the feedbacks between the local socio-cultural environment and the economic world.
