Abstract

Based on Law no. 245/2008 Coll. on education and training (The School Law) it is necessary to realize the importance of emphasizing the development of key competences in the educational process. According to Millenium, one of the key powers are said to be communication skills and personal and interpersonal skills. At the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, bachelor and master studies are realised in the field of Citizenship Education. Students of the mentioned department as would-be teachers of Civic Education should acquire not only sufficient knowledge from the field, but also competences necessary to handle situations arising in practice. In order to map out how to prepare adepts and how they are ready to implement key competences in practice, there is a KEGA project being carried out at the Department of Philosophy at the moment, which is entitled “Verification of key competences of students finalizing undergraduate degree in the field of Education for citizenship with the aim to determine their readiness for teaching practice“,. Based on the identified knowledge we will propose changes in the curriculum for 1st and 2nd grade of Master Degree courses in the field of Citizenship Education at the Department of Philosophy at FF CPU in Nitra. Today, due to an effort to improve the education of citizens it is, therefore, necessary to pay attention to the personality of the teacher and his educational and up-bringing influence on pupils. The aim of the paper is to highlight the necessity of the teacher? s readiness to act within the intentions of acquiring the above-mentioned competences in the educational process. This means to communicate properly, express oneself verbally and non-verbally, to contribute to shaping appropriate interpersonal relationships. An important part leading to achieving this, is also Education for pro-social behaviour, which would become a part of the preparation of a student as a citizen with relevant knowledge, competences and attitudes in the field of Civic Education. The paper pays attention to the issue of the relevance of the mentioned behaviour and its impact on forming the conduct of the primary and secondary school students? s, on the development of their positive relationships with parents, teachers, as well as, themselves. Handling education in these intentions puts high demands on the profession of the teacher, his conduct and behaviour as a man able to develop his personal, social and moral qualities.
