MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL: ENHANCEMENT OF THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE AND HISTORICAL MEMORY IN THE LOWER PO AND INFERNOTTO VALLEYS
Abstract
The Western Piedmont area, where are located the lower Po and Infernotto valleys, is important for intangible heritage, because was the theatre of the main events that took place during the Resistance (September 1943 – April 1945). Consequently, cultural heritage of the community is very conspicuous now. Precisely war diaries, correspondences, video interviews and pictures represent the core of the sources available: part of them is already been published and it is been related to the geography of the territory. However, the anchoring between the contents of the sources and the material proofs described within them is rather original. On a first level, the research analyzes the international debate that refers to the problems related to safeguard of the landscape and of intangible heritage and considers the different museum strategies to enhance the genius loci. Then, the analysis focused on historical sources: in addition to the partisan diaries, there are also some unpublished video interviews to the protagonists of war and the story of protagonists still alive. Lastly, thanks to the support of the historical cartography, it was possible to put into a system the memory considered. Therefore, by supporting the theory proposed by Andrea Emiliani, it seemed that the projecting of a widespread Museum is appropriate to the needs of the community. The essay will explain the organization of this museum through connections and focal points and it will show the conclusions using project and thematic maps.Brief description of the study and used methods.
