EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ABILITIES AND TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP OF SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

The article deals with the interpersonal communication abilities and transformational leadership of senior school students. This article analyses only one domain of interpersonal competence – providing of emotional support. The aim of the research is to reveal the emotional support abilities of senior school students and explore how senior school students’ emotional support abilities relate to charismatic dimensions of transformational leadership. The results show that the transformational leadership of new generation students is not based on the charisma of personal properties of a leader (Idealized Influence). The means and standard deviations of the ranks of transformational leadership areas show that the new generation are characterised by individual consideration when rendering individual support and considering individual needs of the followers. Emotional support abilities correlate with different dimensions of transformational leadership. The domain of transformational leadership Individual Consideration correlates more significantly with the abilities of providing emotional support in comparison to other dimensions of transformational leadership.
