FAITH, WAY OF HUMAN RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE LETTER TO THE ROMANS
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to describe some aspects of faith, a way of human righteousness in front of God in Paul's Letter to the Romans. In order to respond to the question of faith as a way of righteousness, after some premises that concern the confessional debates about the main theme of the epistle, our attention will turn to the exegesis of Romans 3:21-26. The exegetic analysis will highlight the two important poles: on one side the righteousness of God, on the other side the faith of the people. The second part is descriptive. It will be a comparative discussion on the notion of faith in relation with the divine righteousness and the Law. In the end, we will emphasize that faith is an essential aspect of Christian identity and the opening door to salvation and everlasting life. The research has as results two main affirmations. The emphasized main thesis is the following: God is righteous, faithful and merciful, through the sacrifice of Christ. God is right when he forgives and shares his justice. The second thesis is that God justifies the sinful in a free manner, on the ground of their faith. In Paul's vision, faith is the only way to be right in front of God, but this faith implies actions. The study can bring nowadays a clearer understanding of the two biblical concepts, faith and righteousness. At the same time, it is a proposal of faith and righteousness as ways to relate better to the human community.
