Abstract

This communication presents an evaluation of the design-phase of a pedagogical improvement project for the development of competent skills related with the concrete material in Chilean students of Civil Engineering, Building Engineering and Construction Technician. This is done through the transformation from the modalities teaching in the "chair" and "observation of experiences" to teaching based on the use of active-participatory laboratories. More specifically, a project based on a collaborative and interdisciplinary work was developed. The project included three main aspects: a) Redesign courses for implementation of active-participatory laboratories, b) Improving the planning and internal organization of each course using the available resources, c) Quasi-experimental research design to evaluate their effects in the competent knowledge related with the concrete material. This project has completed the stages a) y b), i.e. courses redesign and improvement of the work process. The research measuring their effects on learning is under development. However, until this stage, it is already possible to observe the substantive contribution of the interdisciplinary perspective (pedagogy, civil engineering, building engineering and educational psychology) to consolidate a coherent, pertinent and sufficient redesign to achieve the expected transformation at the technical and university level. Furthermore, it was verified that the improvement or implementation of active-participatory laboratories by redesigning the strategies and processes was possible even without investing significant economic resources. Finally, the need for an interdisciplinary approach to generate the work design, the pedagogical and investigative instruments necessary for the success of the initiative are highlighted.
