STRATEGIC ANALYSIS OF THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT OF TRANSPORT COMPANIES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Abstract
Transport company as a socio-economic system responds to changes in its surroundings and adapts its economic activities to these changes in. Therefore, there is interaction taking place between the enterprise and its surroundings. The article focuses on the analysis of factors that influence the success of business in the field of transport in the Czech Republic, namely in terms of influence around these businesses. As part of the analysis, not only legislation and strategic documents are evaluated that are essential for creating a business environment in the transport sector, but also the structure of the industry, its temporal evolution, competition in the industry. Information was obtained partly from public databases, partly from an empirical research conducted in selected transport companies. On the basis of synthesized knowledge about the current state of the business environment in the Czech Republic and estimates of future trends in transport, a partial SWOT analysis was conducted, namely an analysis of opportunities and threats that transport companies may encounter. The SWOT analysis also includes an analysis of identified opportunities in terms of their attractiveness and analysis of risks in terms of their severity and probability of their occurrence. In the SWOT analysis, both qualitative and quantitative criteria were used and the relationships between the measured factors were evaluated not only in terms of possible causalities, but also taking into account their significance. This allowed the authors to better identify opportunities that the management of transport companies should utilize and threats it should pay attention to. The findings are useful for senior corporate executives, especially in strategic management.
