Abstract

The research is significant because although N.A. Zabolotsky’s creative work has always been the focus of scrupulous attention, it would not be exactly correct to state that all aspects of his creative output were comprehensively studied due to the exclusive unfathomable versatility of masterpieces produced by such a great literary artist. So there are a great number of uninvestigated questions, demanding an in-depth study and thorough analysis. The theme of music in N.A. Zabolotsky’s poetry, the question about the poet’s role, “duties” and the purpose of his work are among these undecided issues. That is why this article aims not just to severally characterise each separate aspect but also to prove their interconnection and interdependence. The article deals with one of the most significant themes in N.A. Zabolotsky’s creative work, i.e. music (musicality). N.A. Zabolotsky’s musicality is not only of a very peculiar origin but it also, in the poet’s opinion, plays a key role in artistic world-organisation, because it includes a specific component – “rationality”. The research is based on the literary analysis of N.A. Zabolotsky’s poetry. The main conclusions and results of the research can be used in lecture and special courses in N.A. Zabolotsky’s creative work and Russian literature of the XXth century both at school and institutions of higher education. The authors emphasise that N.A. Zabolotsky still remains popular among the readers and wields profound influence on their consciousness. Yet due to a number of different poetic traditions this fact, on the one hand, stereotypes readers’ interpretation to a certain extent, on the other hand, makes it possible to speak about some kind of N.A. Zabolotsky’s “bordering poetry”. Although most authors take it for granted that N.A. Zabolotsky is “a poet of thought”, it is the specific problem of ontological significance of rational origin in the reconstruction of artistic being that has not received much researchers’ attention so far. The idea that all facets of our diverse world are rational – the idea of world rationality – dominates the poet’s creative work. N.A. Zabolotsky conducts poetical re-creation of artistic being on the original assumption about rational senselessness of the world, i.e. all things, objects and living beings are characterised by simultaneous presence of sanity and insanity, reasonableness and unreasonableness, sense and senselessness. The premise about rational senselessness of the world is embodied in the role which music plays in N.A. Zabolotsky’s artistic being.
