BREAD RITUAL IN ?ARA FAGARA?ULUI – FROM TRADITIONALISM TO MODERNISM

Abstract

When we talk about bread and its symbols, thought leads us to the three basic elements of man's existence on earth - earth, water, fire. Without earth and water we do not have the raw material - flour, which is the harvest of the field through wheat, without fire we cannot get the bread. Fire is the one that helps us convert the dough into bread and bread in food and spiritual food. The Fagara? Country, the historical land located along the middle course of the Olt River, in the heart of Transylvania, is a rich history place guarded by the Fagara? Mountains. The history of Fagara? Country is a rich one, with hundreds of years of tradition and customs that have been preserved until today. One of the habits of this place that has become a tradition is that of bread baking. Baking in Fagara? Country is a true ritual transmitted from generation to generation. This paper, an integral part of the project "Strategic Mapping of Immaterial Cultural Heritage of the Fagara? Country", presents the importance and role of bread making in community life. As a ritual, the ritual of baked bread corresponds to all stages - from the preparation of the housewife for kneading, the preparation of the leaven, the baking of the bread on the fireplace, and the consumption habits, both on holidays and on ordinary days.
