Abstract

The training of junior football players involves a specific methodology that will include in its planning the mental - psychological factor. It has been found very often that what makes the difference in winning a match is the character, the motivation to participate and the intelligence as the basic components of the athlete's personality. That is why we wanted to highlight a practical way of doing psychological training, integrated into the usual training, which is a model for all coaches working with older junior footballers. The coach’s attitude in team training will have connotations that will significantly influence the athlete not only in training and competitions, but also in his personal daily life. In the long run the influence upon social and civic behaviour will be obvious. The coach’s role will be decisive if he has more information to help him in his activity. Obviously, this training involves a number of aspects to be considered and to which we are going to refer: communication between the coach and the juniors; athletes’ age particularities regarding knowledge, mentality and interests; players’ individual peculiarities, taking into account the large group in which each person's attitude is different; awareness of a common behaviour that has to be respected, as it can produce beneficial or disastrous causes and effects for the whole group. In conclusion, we aim to outline the behaviour that would help us on the way to great performance.
