CLASSICISM IN THE SYSTEM OF VALUES OF MODERN SOCIETY
Abstract
The article deals with classicism as a modern stylistic and aesthetic phenomenon. The authors give a retrospective analysis of some stylistic choices within the artistic culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. The study considers such phenomena as Neoclassicism of the early 20th century, Neoclassicism in the framework of strengthening totalitarianism of the 1930s, neoclassical presence in the context of the International Style of the 1940s-60s, Postmodern classicism of the 1980s, classical retrospections of the 2000s. The central issue was the consideration of classicism in the system of modern values, both artistic and socio-political. The authors used a comparative approach in the study of the problem of the interaction between classicism and power. This allowed not only to determine the markers of modern classicism, but also to prove the direct relationship between the strengthening of political power and the increasing role of classicism in culture. Thus, we can consider classicism as a kind of a marker of power. At the same time, such marking is seen at different social levels, which proves the universality of classicism along with its high adaptability.
