INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE AS AN AGEING EUROPE TOOLKIT FOR MEETING ITS CHALLENGE
Abstract
The purpose of the paper was to investigate the idea of intergenerational dialogue as a toolkit, beneficial for societies that recognised their need for adapting the “all ages” perspective. Such an outlook is hitherto a case of an ideal social structure type, yet Poland and other European countries already experience the need for flexibility of social roles available throughout entire life cycle, essential in the discussed structure type. By desk research the paper addressed steps to be undertaken in order to achieve a structure characterised as age integrated and structural lag free. I examined changes enabling its synchronisation with population ageing processes. And most of all – the scheme resilience still attributing the “young” solely to educational fields, the “middle-aged” to labour market area and the “old” to severely limited social roles available on retirement. Major findings of the paper provided a broader discourse on challenges of intergenerational dialogue and were to have a positive impact on practical after-effects as well as to extend the field apprehension in several fields such as: ? acquiring perception of intergenerational dialogue as a toolkit for generational independence, autonomy and interdependence, the latter being perhaps the first-rate bridge to self-constitution and sense of subjectivity in treating oneself and age-others ? advancing social institutions’ responsiveness in terms of various generations’ demands ? developing a foundation for new forms of intergenerational relations.
