RUSSIAN STUDENTS CHOOSING KOREAN UNIVERSITIES
Abstract
The article highlights the issues of international student mobility and the process of choosing the country to go to study abroad. South Korea is on the third place in the list of top East Asian countries hosting international students from all over the world. The article presents the results of the research on Russian students graduated from the universities in South Korea and its motivation to study abroad. Data collection from the semi-structured interviews revised the perception of educational system of Korean universities compared to Russian educational institutions, the role of foreign language skills and intercultural competence in the development of their career trajectories, the reasons they decided to study in Korea and professional perspectives after studying abroad. Also it covers the structural changes in tertiary education policy of South Korea to attract international students, including the regulations allowing the universities to open international departments and programs, and the way it affected the growth of international students in KoreaВ’s universities.
